Why I'll be adding Bitcoin to my portfolio
Theta wave dreaming.
A few days after my mother's funeral in 2011, I had a dream about blockchain. This was after days of severe sleep deprivation. The dream was vivid—a hallucination. But I didn't understand what it meant. I thought it had something to do with computer security and filed it away.
Fast forward to this morning. I stumbled on a couple of YouTube videos about Bitcoin that made something click. That old dream came rushing back.
There's this blissful state between sleep and awake that plays an important role in my life. It's called theta wave activity—your brain operating at 4-7Hz. Children experience it more than adults. It's the border between conscious and subconscious worlds.
In times of stress, my subconscious dreams have later helped me make decisions. Investing decisions. People decisions. Good luck that doesn't feel like luck.
Today I had one of those moments.
Today I came across a blog post on how to tap into inner consciousness. When something resonates, I act on it impulsively. I bought all four books mentioned in the article.

The first Youtube video I watched was a review of a book called "Broken Money" by Lyn Alden.
Here's what caught my attention:
World War II was funded by Britain printing money. In 1944, the US dollar became the global reserve currency, pegged to gold at $35/oz. This enabled post-war trade to resume. But it overburdened US gold reserves. In 1971, Nixon stopped pegging the dollar to gold.
Then came the petrodollar. The US dollar became the currency for trading oil. This put a financial burden on smaller nations.
The book explains something called the Cantillon effect. When more money is printed, the ultra-wealthy benefit. Everyone else suffers.
I also watched some other Bitcoin videos. Below is one example.
Adding Bitcoin.
I'm seriously considering adding Bitcoin to my investment portfolio—at least 5% of my investable assets. This ties in with what Nassim Taleb calls the barbell strategy. It also ties with the Investment allocation followed by Matt, the Money Guy.
The Broken Money book YouTube review at the end mentioned two other books that would be easier to digest:
- The Big Print by Larry Lepard
- The Hidden Cost of Money by Seb Bunney. I ordered his ebook, of course, and subscribed to his newsletter. Seb has a Bitcoin Basics Podcast: https://sebbunney.com/bitcoin-basics-series/
Conclusion:
I'm not saying you should run out and buy Bitcoin. But I am saying you should pay attention to those moments between sleep and awake. Those dreams that stick with you. That nagging feeling that something matters even when you don't know why. Your subconscious may be smarter than you realize...
